Tapa Kalān - Figure
This damaged head with an idealized face is perhaps that of a donor, a Buddha or a Bodhisattva. The hair is treated in a particular way. The hair is organized in highly stylized curly rolls arranged horizontally, forming "crowns" of superimposed curls.
Observation :It seems that this head has been recorded twice in the "Catalogue of the National Museum of Afghanistan". The first one on p. 444, K.p. Ha. 1243.310, KM 62-3-411, h = 9.1 cm from a photograph by Mizuno, 1963: 143. The second on p. 445, K.p. Ha. 1247.314 from Barthoux's fig. 70f. The treatment of the hair and the break in the forehead have an identical appearance. However, this can only be confirmed by further examination.
