Tapa Kalān - Figure
Depicted beardless, Vajrapāṇi borrows the features of Bacchus or of the silenes who accompany him. His overly large forehead makes his face deformed rather than brachycephalic. His hair is short, wavy, and his ears seem to end in points. The face is serious: frowning eyebrows, deep eyes, severe expression. He is inspired by Hellenistic works. His posture suggests movement.
