Description

This head is probably that of a warrior. Mustached and with a shaved chin, the hair falls on the forehead and frames the face in coarse locks. The face expresses pathos: eyes sunken under the eyebrows are frowned upon, the mouth is animated by a severe pout.

Observations

Acquired through a fund established by Ernest B. and Helen Pratt Dane for the purchase of Asian art in memory of Benjamin Rowland Jr. this work is housed at the Harvard Art Museums/Arthur M. Sackler Museum.
