Description

A row of stylised round curls topped by a laurel crown frame the face of this warrior, whose face is heavily eroded. The hairstyle covers the ears, revealing enlarged lobes. The face is Western-inspired: the neck is twisted, the gaze is tormented and turned upwards, the lips are parted and the expression is pathetic.

Observations

We believe that this head has been recorded twice in the "Catalogue of the National Museum of Afghanistan". The first time is on p. 416, K.p. Ha. 1139.206 based on a photo from the private photographic collection of Lolita Nehru, the second time on p. 421, K.p. Ha. 1158.225 from fig. 83a of Barthoux's publication.
