About this Colloquium
This international colloquium, organised on 22-23 May 2024 by Dr. Alexandra Vanleene in collaboration with Prof. G. Ducoeur, Dr. A. Marguier and Mrs. V. Brice, was held under the auspices of the Interdisciplinary Thematic Institute HiSAAR at the University of Strasbourg.
The full title – "Gandhāran Artists and Artisans: Representations of an Era of Religious Images" – places at the centre of debate a fundamental yet often neglected question: who were the artists and artisans who created Gandhāran art? What were their working conditions, training, and social status?
